So you’re ready to plan your next (or first) webinar?!
Awesome! I can’t wait!
Now you need to find a great topic to talk about.
I love doing webinars and think that they’re an amazing way to build your audience, put yourself out there, and launch or promote your products.
Webinars have been one of the most useful tools in my pocket over the past couple of years. After executing several successful webinars, I know from experience that planning one can be a pain in the butt.
The hardest part about planning a webinar is picking a topic and title for your webinar. It’s also the most important part to get right. People use the name of your webinar to decide whether or not they want to attend.
The good news? A great webinar topic sells itself. Watch this video to get my best tips on picking the perfect webinar topic:
How to pick a webinar topic (hint: no one cares what you want to talk about) via @CourtRJ http://ow.ly/WX60P
Webinar tip: deliver a result in an hour and you’ll get fans for life. http://ow.ly/WX60P via @CourtRJ
#1 Forget about what you want to talk about. The biggest mistake people make in business is starting with, “What do I want?” instead of “What does my audience want?”. Do not pick a topic and then try to force it to fit with your launch.
#2 Survey your audience. The greatest way to figure out which topic your audience wants to know about is to ask them! If you don’t have a big audience, you’ll want to find a handful of people in your target market and interview them about the subject first. If you do have an audience you can survey, that’s great! Send out a 2-3 question survey and ask, “What’s your biggest obstacle in X?” (Hint: I like to gauge audience interest by testing topics on Periscope first! That’s how I came up with the idea for the “Outline Your Sales Page” workshop that I run a few times per year).
#3 What do people need to learn before they’re ready for your product? Amy Porterfield often teaches that the webinar is the “what” and the product is the “how”. Meet your audience where they are now and teach them what they need to know in order to be ready for your product.
#4 What is one specific result that you can help people to achieve in one hour? This is my favorite way to pick a webinar topic. If you can help people to actually get something done, have a major “aha”, and see a change during your webinar, they will be at the edge of their seats to buy your product at the end!
#5 Make your webinar name very clear. It’s always better to be clear than clever. I like to choose a name that focuses on EXACTLY what’s going to happen at the webinar. Think about questions #3 + #4 to answer this one. Also, make sure that the webinar name is in the language that your target audience uses, not your industry lingo!
Alright rule breaker, it’s your turn to go out there and plan an amazing webinar. I hope you’ll share this article below and tweet me to tell me the topic of your next webinar!
