If getting clients feels inconsistent, unpredictable, or harder than it should be, there’s usually one reason:
You’re overcomplicating it.
Most service providers aren’t struggling because they’re not doing enough. They’re struggling because they’re doing too many disconnected things without a clear structure behind them.
You’re posting on Instagram, sending emails, thinking about launching something, maybe trying outreach… but none of it feels like it’s working together.
So it ends up feeling chaotic. Like you’re putting in effort, but not seeing consistent results.
Let’s simplify this.
There are only five ways to get clients.
Everything you do – every strategy, platform, or tactic – fits into one of these five categories.
Once you understand that, you can stop guessing and start building something that actually works.

Before we get into the five ways, it’s important to understand why things feel so messy right now.
When you don’t have a clear framework, your strategy becomes reactive instead of intentional.
You try things based on:
The problem is, none of those things are anchored in a system.
So you end up jumping between strategies, trying things once, and abandoning them when they don’t immediately work.
That’s what creates inconsistency.
It’s not that the strategies themselves are wrong—it’s that they’re not being used in a structured way.
Every client you will ever sign will come from one of these five categories.
Not ten. Not twenty. Five.
This is direct, personalized communication with a specific person.
That could be:
This is not mass messaging or copy-paste outreach. It’s intentional, tailored communication.
It’s also one of the fastest ways to generate clients—because you’re not waiting to be discovered. You’re initiating the conversation.
A lot of people avoid this because it feels uncomfortable or “salesy,” but when done properly, it’s neither. It’s simply starting a conversation with someone you already have a level of connection with.
While outreach is one-on-one, DMs deserve their own category because they function differently.
DMs are where relationships deepen and decisions happen.
Your content might introduce someone to you, but it’s inside the DMs where:
This is where someone goes from “interested” to “ready.”
For service providers especially, this is one of the most important spaces to focus on—because your offer is often higher-touch and requires more trust.
Mini services are one of the most underutilized but effective strategies.
These are small, focused offers designed to:
A free mini service might look like a short call where you walk someone through a key part of your process.
A paid mini service might be a small, specific deliverable that solves one piece of a bigger problem.
The goal isn’t to give everything away—it’s to show what working with you is like and help someone see the value of going deeper.
At some point, you need to actually promote your services.
This is where you shift from passive visibility into intentional selling.
Promotions can be simple:
Or more structured:
The key is that you’re actively telling people what you do and how to work with you.
Without this, even the best strategy won’t convert—because people won’t know what the next step is.
This is where a lot of missed opportunities live.
Follow-up includes:
Many people avoid follow-up because they don’t want to feel pushy.
But in reality, timing is a huge factor in buying decisions.
Just because someone said no before doesn’t mean it’s a no forever.
Following up gives people the opportunity to re-engage when they’re actually ready.
Understanding these five categories is the first step.
The next step is using them intentionally.
You don’t need to do everything inside each category. In fact, that’s where people get overwhelmed.
Instead, you want to:
This is where your client booking system starts to form.
Instead of relying on random effort, you’re creating:
When those pieces are in place, client flow becomes much more predictable.
If you’re wondering what to actually do next, start here.
I put together 100 ways to book a client this week, organized by these exact five categories—so you can stop guessing and start taking action.
