I think I’m done with productivity.
Time management. Systems. Productivity hacks. They’re all supposed to be tools to help you get where you want to go. But here’s the problem: Almost no one is actually using them for that.
I know because I spent years trying to be the kind of person who could just follow her calendar. I had the perfect system. The color-coded blocks. The neatly planned weeks. And every single time? I couldn’t follow through.
I thought I was broken. I thought my lack of discipline was the issue. But here’s what I know now:
That’s the number one sign of a patriarchal, capitalist system—when it makes you think you’re the problem.
The truth? I wasn’t failing productivity. Productivity was failing me.
Because productivity is a hamster wheel. It makes you feel like you’re moving, but you’re not actually getting anywhere. And the more I worked with my clients, the more I saw it: they were tracking, optimizing, and managing their time… but making zero real progress.
And that’s when it hit me:
Productivity is about doing more. Progress is about getting somewhere.
And if I wanted to actually move forward in my life, I had to make a choice:
Prioritize progress
Let go of productivity as a goal in itself
The real work isn’t about managing time better. It’s about finally admitting what actually matters—and ruthlessly cutting everything else.
When we focus on productivity, we create an impossible, unwinnable game. It never ends. You’re now a productive person. Congrats! What do you win? Oh, right—more to do.
But progress is different. Progress is about getting further down the road, not burning gas for no reason. Sometimes, the smartest move isn’t to push harder—it’s to put the car in neutral and let it roll downhill.
I realized there are so many ways I can live my dream life right now. But because I was taught to see it as a destination—something I had to get to—I fell into the trap of believing that if I just pushed a little harder for a little longer, I’d get there faster.
Spoiler: That’s not how it works.
I wasn’t inching closer to my dream life—I was running in place, mistaking motion for momentum. And the harder I worked, the more I kept postponing the very things I claimed to be working toward.
That’s when I knew:
I didn’t need to be more productive.
I needed to stop playing the game altogether.
Was I going to keep trying to juggle it all, or was I finally going to let some balls drop?
I chose the second option. And here’s what that actually looked like:
Balls I’ve dropped (on purpose):
And the biggest shift of all? I stopped trying to meet expectations I never agreed to.
I used to stress about letting people down—especially over things that weren’t important to me. But now? The only person I refuse to disappoint is my future self.
But this shift wasn’t just about saying no—it was about getting crystal clear on what I actually wanted to say yes to.
Recently, I asked myself:
How do I want to spend this one precious life?
How do I really want to spend my time?
And for the first time, I had an answer. Here’s what I came up with:
Laughing and having fun with loved ones. Not “fancy fun” (though that’s cool sometimes), but the kind of hang-out-in-your-living-room belly laughing fun.
Thinking and learning. Two of my favorite things.
Connecting with like-minded people and having deep conversations. Whether it’s client calls, masterminds, or long chats with good friends—this fills me up.
Moving and taking care of my body.
Eating and drinking delicious things.
Enjoying small, everyday adventures. Or rather, experiencing every day as an adventure.
Creating cool stuff because I feel like it.
For the first time in my life, I was able to distill what actually matters to me. And it’s taken me 37 years to get to know myself this well.
These aren’t just fleeting interests—they’re consistently the things that make me feel alive. I’m confident that this is how I want to spend my life forever.
Eliminate everything that is not these things.
No exceptions.
That’s the project. That’s the work.
Not “managing time better.” Not “fitting more in.” Not “hacking productivity.”
Just ruthlessly cutting away everything that doesn’t serve the life I actually want to be living.
Because in the end? There will never be enough time for everything.
But there is enough time for this.
That’s all that matters.
How could anything else matter?
