Back in October 2022, I posted a bananas amount of content on Instagram (you may recall it! I got a lot of messages from people telling me they saw me everywhere) and I wrote this post to share with you what I did, why I did it, the results I got, and how I’m using this strategy to create content in 2023!
This is a hefty one, so get cozy! I recorded audio summaries of each section in case you are soothed by the sounds of my voice.
Watch Me Create Strategic Content:
I recorded 7 videos of myself creating the content for this blitz and put them all in an opt-in I’m calling “Watch Me Create Strategic Content” –> Click here to get it!
First of all: What is a Micro Content Blitz?
Click “play” to listen to me explain what a Micro Content Blitz is!
The Micro Content Blitz is a method to brainstorm endless strategic content ideas for any platform (Instagram, YouTube, Tiktok, blog posts , you name it!)
You can use a Micro Content Blitz to:
Come up with an entire year’s worth of content ideas in one sitting.
Rapidly grow your online audience full of people who are highly likely to become paying clients and customers.
Warm up your audience before a big launch or promotion so that they are chomping at the bit to buy what you’re selling
How did I come up with this strategy?
In summary:
Already had my 5X5 Content Matrix strategy I teach in Yay for 100K™
Had an “aha” about the power of content that shows and gives examples, so I recorded myself creating my content matrix
In order to create that kind of content you need to get specific, so I had to get even more micro with my content matrix
The Epic Content Matrix was born!
I got into doing reels and wanted to post multiple per day 🙂
Was promoting my free mini service and Yay for Clients Accelerator (this was a brilliant mix and in the Accelerator I teach how to do this!)
These are the top performing posts from my Micro Content Blitz:
Top of mind: People telling me they were seeing my content every time they opened their app (people who had followed me for years but hadn’t engaged in a while).
Ease of creating content. I was on such a roll and it became very easy for me to ride the wave, creating more and more content that people were absolutely loving.
Created the “Watch Me Create Strategic Content” freebie which was both (a) a really compelling freebie and (b) nurtured people for the Yay for Clients Accelerator launch.
Realized that I needed to launch the Yay for Clients Accelerator and whipped it together in about a week?
Invigorated our current Yay for 100K clients, too! They loved the content I was creating and asked me what I was doing, so I’m teaching them the Mini Content Blitz strategy.
Quantitative Results:
Instagram results from Oct 4-Nov 5:
reached 94% more accounts than the month before (20K)
Engaged 111% more accounts than the month before (733)
Yay for Clients Accelerator
On the free $100K Roadmap calls I rarely brought up the Yay for Clients Accelerator. Almost every single person brought it up and told me they wanted to enroll without me having to say anything.
Set a big goal of 50 enrollments (this was my “unicorn” goal) and we ended up surpassing that goal and enrolling 62 students!
$31,000 beta launch of the Yay for Clients Accelerator
Why I think it worked:
I was willing to create micro content on just about anything in the moment and also had planned a lot of content.
Micro content gets more traction than macro content because there is almost no competition for it.
Most people are trying to talk about too many things in each piece of content.
Allow your content to have a small job and it will be more powerful!
Micro content demonstrates your expertise better than macro content
The devil is in the details
Which one of these is more powerful: (share example of macro vs. micro content)
How would I do a Micro Content Blitz differently next time?
One thing I loved about my Micro Content Blitz was the wild and creative energy of making something up as I went. That said, I know that it’s not necessary to do that to get great results.
Here are some things I would do differently:
Plan further in advance. Moving forward, I am using the Micro Content Blitz strategy to plan out all of my Instagram content but I am aiming to be 2 weeks ahead with content at all times
Start the blitz earlier. I know that my content blitz would have been even more powerful if I had started it 1-2 weeks earlier. This would have given me time to warm up my audience more before I launched the Yay for Clients Accelerator.
Share the content via email. This way even more people would have seen it! I did send out a few emails, but it wasn’t high on the priority list.
Be EVEN more intentional about the order of topics. As you can see in the Watch Me Create Strategic Content video, I did organize my content to be aligned with the Yay for Clients Accelerator modules. I think I could have been even more intentional about this!
Promote the Watch Me Create Strategic Content opt-in more. Because I was already promoting the YFC Accelerator, I didn’t want to distract too much from that goal. If I had started my blitz earlier I could have gotten way more people to watch that opt-in video.
Despite those changes, I loved doing the Micro Content Blitz strategy so much that it is how I am creating content for the entirety of 2023.
Let me show you what I mean…
How I’m using the Micro Content Blitz strategy to plan all of my 2023 content:
Step 1 – I built an Epic Content Matrix
This is pretty juicy. Here’s a video of what that looks like:
[2023] Content Matrix Overview – Watch Video
Step 2 – I determined my posting frequency
I want to maintain a relatively high volume of posting frequency in 2023 so I am committing to posting 5x per week on Monday – Friday.
Step 3 – I assigned a theme for each week
As of right now, I am dedicating each week to a specific call to action. This means that every post that week will have a call to action that promotes the same thing and it makes it easier to plan the content for that week.
For January 2023, for example, these are my weekly themes:
Step 3 – Choose topics from my Epic Content Matrix for each day
This is the fun part! I got to look through my Epic Content Matrix and pull out the topics that I thought would be the most powerful to promote the CTA for that week (see above)
I love to use AirTable to plan out my Micro Content Blitz topics.
Here’s what my content plan looks like for January 2023:
Step 4 – Create the content (in advance!)
This, of course, is the most time consuming part. I believe that the biggest mistake people make here is treating “create content” as a task when in reality it is a whole ass project!
Here’s how I break down creating content:
#1 Outline the content
Once I’ve chosen the topic ideas for the month, I create outlines/brain dump ideas for all of those posts as soon as I can.
#2 Create the content
My content is divided between Reels and Graphics.
Instagram Reels:
I prefer to batch record Reels once per week (goal is to stay 2 weeks ahead). I do NOT edit them when I record them (that’s too much work and takes me out of the flow). I edit the reels during a separate work session or while watching TV at night.
Graphics:
I create the graphics for the posts (whether in Canva or simply taking screenshots of my Notes app) during one of my content work blocks.
#3 Write the caption
Once the concept of the post is determined I can write the caption. Sometimes I write the caption in order to create the post but most of the time the caption is the last thing that I create. Writing captions is important and time consuming so I work on captions during one work block so I can stay in the zone.
#4 Schedule the post
My intention is to have all content scheduled two weeks ahead and I will do this on Monday afternoons. So, if today is Monday that means by the end of the day all of the posts need to be scheduled in Later for this week, next week, and the following week!
