If you’ve been wondering how to grow your business sustainably, the question of services vs courses is probably on your mind.
Here’s something I’ve been teaching for nearly a decade:
Do not launch a course until your services are locked in.
By “locked in,” I mean:
✔️ You’ve streamlined how you deliver your work
✔️ You have a simple, repeatable marketing system
✔️ Your offer sells without you having to twist your own arm
I’ve shared this advice over and over with service providers—because I’ve watched what happens when people try to jump ahead. And yet?
Earlier this year… I broke my own damn rule.
Like many of you, I’m in a new season of life. I’ve had babies, stepped back from the business, and came into 2024 ready to scale to seven figures. Fast.
So what did I do?
I decided to focus on scaling my courses again.
Courses I already had.
I thought, “This will be faster. Easier. More leveraged.”
Spoiler: It was none of those things.
Here’s what I forgot:
Courses require runway.
They need audience-building, consistent marketing, and so much behind-the-scenes energy that you just don’t have when your services aren’t already running smoothly in the background.
And I had just taken my foot off the gas with services.
So… I went back to what I knew works.
I reopened Courtney for a Quarter—my 3-month private service offer that had sold out instantly months earlier (via two Instagram Stories, while I was sick with meningitis, no less).
This time, I actually followed my own playbook:
📍 Lazy sales system (Module 5 of Yay for Clients)
📍 Strategic promo (Module 6, baby!)
📍 Application process optimized
Result?
Booked out. Again.
85% of applicants enrolled.
And now I get to raise the price. (Yay for me.)
Because the trap I fell into?
You might be in it right now.
You might be eyeing courses as the “easy way out.”
You might be tired of client work. Burned out. Looking for more leverage, more space, more… something.
But here’s the thing:
Courses are not easier.
Not at first.
Not when your services aren’t solid.
Not when your messaging is still fuzzy and your marketing is inconsistent.
If you’re not selling your 1:1 services with ease, you’re not ready to sell a course.
That’s what this week’s episode is about.
The real math behind what business model is right for you
Why most course launches flop (and how to avoid the mess)
The 3 biggest traps service providers fall into when pivoting

This is the beginning of a mini-series I’m doing this month all about services + courses—how to blend them, when to switch, and what order actually works for a sustainable, soul-honoring business.
If you’ve ever felt pulled in both directions, if you’re not sure whether to launch something new or just clean up what you already have—this one’s for you.
