I have an embarrassing confession to make.

Just two years ago, I thought that in order to do anything in life, I needed to have a fancy diploma that would add lots of letters to the end of my name.

So, even after I started The Rule Breaker’s Club, I was plotting to apply to graduate school. I wanted to earn a Ph.D. in Positive Psychology so that I would be certified to give people advice on happiness.

I can’t lie, becoming a doctor of happiness sounded pretty sweet. (Let’s face it: life experience is a much more valuable credential in this field).

 

But secretly?

 

The only reason I wanted the advanced degree was because I thought that no one would listen to my advice unless I spent years doing research (even though that wouldn’t help anyone)!

Basically, I made up a bunch of reasons why no one would pay me for my talent until I got the degree because I felt unworthy.

I was too young.

I didn’t have an advanced degree.

I had no corporate experience.

I was making it up as I went along.

 

But that’s all a lie!

You have knowledge that other people need. Knowledge that other people are willing to pay cash money for.

Like, a lot of money, my friend.

The reason why I forced you to spend some time figuring out your passion last week (if you haven’t done that you need to do that first so click here) was because your passion is the thing that other people are willing to pay big bucks for!

And it is your responsibility to face your fears and make it happen!

 

Most of us discount our passions as true talent because we think work is supposed to be hard. (Tweet that!)

Maybe you’re great with computers, but you think it’s too easy of a service to make people pay you for.

Maybe you’re a kick ass seamstress, but you shy away from accepting money to mend a friend’s dress.

Maybe you have a knack for teaching (though maybe not in a formal education setting), but you think that it’s a skill that comes easy to everyone.

The thing is, you’re wrong. The things you’re good at don’t come easy to other people. (Tweet that, too!)

 

 

It’s ok for earning money to be EASY and FUN.

Let me tell you—for me, writing, joking around, having fun, talking to people, and being sassy are natural talents.

These things come easy for me. When I’m just being myself, that’s how I am.

And I totally accept that these things do not come easy to others, which is why they are more than happy to pay me to do it for them!
